Tickets are now on sale for two events organised by The Octagon Theatre and Westlands Entertainment Venue that will mark our solidarity and support towards the humanitarian and emergency response work in Ukraine and neighbouring countries affected by the refugee crisis.
Both events will be raising funds for School in a Bag’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal and the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. All ticket proceeds will go towards both of the charities, including bar sales and many of our theatre staff working the event have offered to donate their time.
Concert for Ukraine takes place at The Octagon Theatre on Friday 1 April at 7:30pm. The concert will see performances from across Somerset and beyond with an evening of music, dance and spoken word. The programme for the evening is set to include: The Octagon Choir, Fairmead School Choir, Sherborne Community Choir, The Trinity Entertainers, Yeovil African Drumming Group, Eminence Dance, Project Dance, Dance Factory, Colour: Indian Dance Group, Castaway Theatre Group, The Studio Dorset, Yeovil College Performing Arts Students, Amy Forskett Dance: AFDYOUTH, Charlotte Wood, Bronte Cheshire and Matthew Rock.
We are also delighted to announce that former BBC presenter, Emma Britton, will be hosting the evening. Emma said: “I am so honoured to have been asked to be the host of the Octagon Theatre’s Concert for Ukraine. Like so many people, I have felt somewhat helpless to know what to do to support those in such awful circumstances so it’s great that this event will help contribute to the funds being raised for the people of Ukraine. It will be a great evening of entertainment packed full of local talent and I can’t wait.”
Rock for Ukraine takes place at Westlands Entertainment Venue on Friday 22 April, with doors opening at 7:30pm. It gives you the opportunity to also show solidarity with Ukraine through the power of live music at a stand up event. Acts for the evening will include Bad Cowboys, IOU’s, Snakebyte and DJ Frazer Mitchell.
Adam Burgan, Arts & Entertainment Venues Manager, said: “Since the invasion of Ukraine began, I think we have all been horrified by images and stories filling our news feeds and screens and feeling somewhat helpless at what we can do. Stories soon came through of multiple humanitarian aid runs leaving the South West. Something we can do is help raise awareness, show our support and raise much needed funds that reaches those in need and displaced by the current situation in Ukraine.”
Both events are ‘pay what you can’ with a suggested ticket fee of £15, however you can also choose £10, £20 or £25 options.
