This month's performer is Caroline Wallis-Newport.
Caroline is a professional pianist and piano teacher who trained at the Royal College of Music. She lives in Yeovil.
She has performed as a soloist, accompanist, chamber musician, orchestral pianist and wedding pianist in London, Denmark and France. Venues in this country have included Morley College, the Bristol Music Club, the Octagon and Westlands Theatres, Strode Theatre, Wells Cathedral, Montacute House, Brympton House, North Cadbury Court, Bagborough House, the Orchardleigh Estate, Larmer Tree Gardens, the Guildhall in Bath, the Victoria Rooms in Bristol and Salisbury Cathedral. During the pandemic she gave a recital of classical piano music in St James' Church in Yeovil.
She formerly taught the piano for Roehampton University and Sutton Adult Education College in Surrey and was a peripatetic teacher at primary and secondary schools within London and Somerset. She has also been a tutor at Strode College in Street and Sherborne Preparatory School. She now teaches advanced students privately.
Highlights of Caroline's career have included accompanying the international operatic tenor, Stuart Skelton, in a recital of music by Liszt and Korngold and performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with an orchestra.
She was also the music advisor for a dramatisation of The Turn of the Screw, which was filmed at Brympton House in 2009 and which starred Michelle Dockery (more recently seen in Downton Abbey).
Although classically-trained, Caroline is a versatile pianist and enjoys playing many other genres such as jazz and pop as well as music from films and television.
