How We Made - The Golden Age of Canals
One of the glories of Britain’s industrial heritage is the astonishing network of canals that weave their way across the countryside and through many of our towns and cities. Today we take them for granted but had it not been for the super human efforts of a small band of volunteers and enthusiasts we would have lost this incredible legacy for ever.
Using wonderful and rare colour film shot by some of those volunteers, David Parker will talk about why Britain’s canals were once so important to the nation’s prosperity, why they were almost lost and how this band of intrepid volunteers brought them back to life and saved them for the nation. And how he captured the story for television.
